Espagnolette locks, also known as basquille locks, are locking mechanisms that comprise a handle or knob which is connected to two locking bars / locking rods mounted to the surface of the door frame. Upon turning of the handle, the bars are set in motion in different directions to open or close the locking mechanism. This type of locking system is also referred to as quick-release locking mechanism.
Espagnolette locking systems are most commonly known from the rear doors of semi-trailer trucks which typically use this type of mechanism. Blau-Metall manufactures Espagnolette locks for use in plant engineering as locking mechanism for electric control cabinets). Our locks have been used on ocean-going vessels, trains and control cabinets at power plants; Blau-Metall has delivered its locks to a number of renowned industry giants like Bombardier and Siemens.
Blau-Metall Espagnolette Locks are manufactured according to the robust technical regulations of the TGL Standard 201-0501 of the former German Democratic Republic – a design that has proven itself as a robust and reliable solution over several decades of use across the globe. (Installation Scheme) Millions of TGL-compliant locks remain in use aboard trains, ships, in manufacturing plants of all kinds.
Our Espagnolette Locks can be customized depending on the applicational requirements of our customers; fully custom-made locking mechanisms can also be furnished for specialized use. Our product palette includes three fundamental types of locks: Turn bolt Locks, Standard Espagnolette Locks, Espagnolette Safety Locks
Turn bolt locks
Turn bolt locks are employed as a simple and secure way of locking doors and other closing components. Out turn bolt locks can be fitted with latches of different shapes and sizes to cater to a variety of strike plates. This permits our Turn bolt locks to be installed in a variety of systems with respect to the depth of the strike plate / box.
Our turn bolts are affixed to a standardized bracket (Bracket M) which itself is mounted to the door via bolting or welding to build the structural interface between the door and the locking mechanism itself. To improve the external optics of the lock, an additional cover in the form of a rosette can be fitted onto the lock. This Rosette can be procured as lock accessory component.
Given the versatility of the turn bolt lock design, it can be manufactured with virtually any type of latch, including custom-made latches according to customer specification.
Standard Espagnolette Locks
Our line of standard Espagnolette locks can be used as a locking mechanism for doors, protective panels or movable housing components of industrial devices in machine- and plant-construction, electrical engineering.
As opposed to basic turn bolt locks that only have one locking point, our standard Espagnolette locks are a three-point locking mechanism, offering much higher security with additional tamper-proof provisions included in the inherent design of the lock. As with our basic turn bolt locks, our line of Espagnolette locks can be outfitted with many different locking cylinders to allow for use of several key options including standard designs as well as specialized and unique keys.
Several latch shapes and sizes are available for the primary turn bolt lock to allow for compatibility with a wide variety of strike plates / boxes of different depths.
Our standard Espagnolette locks are outfitted with a pair of movable toothed racks that are actuated into opposite directions upon rotation of the locking cylinder and transfer that motion to the actual locking bars at the top and bottom of the door (this occurs concurrently with a 90° rotation of the center latch).
Two different thrust rod designs are available: one that requires simple suspension of the locking bars and one that requires a bolted interface between thrust rod and locking bar for additional robustness. Additional components needed for the locking bars themselves are fixation brackets.
Similarly to the basic turnbolts, the Espagnolette locks are affixed to a standardized bracket (Bracket M) which itself is mounted to the door via bolting or welding to build the structural interface between the door and the locking mechanism itself. To improve the external optics of the lock, an additional cover in the form of a rosette can be fitted onto the lock. This Rosette can be procured as lock accessory component.
Out Espagnolette Locks are available for right and left hinged doors. All Blau-Metall locks are yellow chromated. Customization available upon request.
Safety Espagnolette Locks
Safety Locks produced by Blau-Metall are primarily used for high-voltage switching cabinets and other sensitive installations that could potentially be a target of tampering. As with the standard Espagnolettes, our safety locks provide a three-point locking mechanism and are available for left- and right-hinged doors
